The Vineyards
Aslant to the River Sera, sparse patches of brown grass are scattered along
the rolling hillside, desertlike from far. The City's standards can be
faintly seen wavering upon the stone turrets of the barracks. Entwined
around low, ashen stone walls, long rows of luscious vines run perpendicular
in immaculate order to the slope of the hill, flourishing even where the
grass falters. The contrasting colors of the grapes on the myriad of vines
create the appearance of a gentle wave, shifting from a pale green to a
dark, rich red. Between each row, narrow dirt paths, littered with small
rocks and broken grit, lead down further into the vineyard towards the
riverbank. Across the river, a prominent bridge of white and its promenade
can be seen, the eclectic structure contrasting sharply with the fluidic
reflection of the river beneath. The slope climbs upwards to a small winery,
a cosy grove of dark olive trees encircling it.

Sera River Winery
The arched entryway of the winery appears much like what one would find in a
monastery, perhaps alluding to the origin of the old structure. The simple
limestone walls are devoid of any ornaments, save for a large wooden sign on
the far wall. A large oak vat containing a must of juice and crushed grapes
occupies a large portion of the spacious winery. In rows along the wall near
the vat, large open barrels, nearly overflowing with fermenting liquid, stand
as a testament to the multi-step process. In the center of the winery, a large
press fills the structure, giving the otherwise open floor a cramped feeling.
Near the press stand large sealed oaken barrels; banded with black metal and
revealing slight red stains from minute leaks, awaiting the transfer of their
acidic contents to the smaller barrels. In the far corner, a simple stone
stairway both leads up to the loft and down to the storage area of the winery.

Second Floor of the Sera River Winery
The scent of baking bread fills the second floor of the winery, though the
room is cool and lacking the heat of an oven that one would associate with the
smell. Stacked neatly into a corner are small, sealed barrels of wine, the
escaping scent from the simple airlocks accounting for the odd aroma. The rest
of the room is barren, the stone walls unadorned save for a window cut into
the stone on the east side of the room, overlooking part of the vineyard and
the river. Tucked into a corner, occupying only a small part of the room, a
modest bed with a thin mattress and a worn oaken frame gives the loft almost a
quaint feeling. Next to the bed, a small nightstand holds a single tallow
candle in a simple iron holder, providing a dim glow over the loft.
