Before Irae: Before coming to Irae Kadgeon was many things to many different people. But perhaps you would like to know how she became who she is now, how she became what she is. Her mother was Queen to a land far away from Irae not known to many people. However her mother's people were not to be underestimated. In fact most of them were powerful mages, and those who were not so powerful still had their small gifts. Her mother however was one of the most powerful in the Kingdom that she ruled over, and it was almost befitting seeing as how she was the Queen. For some reason one day the Queen summoned a powerful demon lord to her, as for what purpose this was no one knows, even now. For some reason the demon lord wished to stay, some say it was because he had fallen in love with Kadgeon’s mother, and others say it was because he wanted the Kingdom. No matter what any of them said he really had fallen in love with Kadgeon’s mother and soon they married and had three other children before they had Kadgeon. Peace had ruled over her Mother’s lands for many years before she was born, but that was all about to change. On the night of her birth a prophet from the city came to her mother and father. The old man spoke of war and suffering for their people, and that their daughter would suffer the most. He spoke of darkness that would forever keep her hidden from the light, of choices and difficult roads in her path. She would rule the Kingdom one day, and would eventually lead another people as well. Kadgeon’s mother had a scribe write down all that the old man had said, and saved the scroll for many years until she passed it down to her youngest daughter. As Kadgeon grew so did her powers and knowledge, soon she was a very powerful mage in her Kingdom. It was rumored that she was even more powerful than her mother, maybe even close to her father’s powers. Everyone put the old man’s prophecy in the back of their minds, never really thinking of the dangers he had predicted. Soon Kadgeon reached adulthood and was betrothed to a half-elven prince from a land that bordered their own. On the night of their betrothal celebration a small army came to the city gates and murdered the few guards that were there, and not up at the palace. Swiftly and silently they slaughtered most of the people in the town and worked their way up to the palace. Storming into the Great Hall where everyone was gathered they began to kill any and all who were in their way. One of the Royal servants managed to get Kadgeon and one of her brothers out of the Hall and out of the castle to safety. Two days after the attack Kadgeon and her brother went back to inspect the damage and to see if any others had survived. With magick still heavy in the air they began searching the castle and its grounds for survivors. After hours of searching the castle the only survivor they found was their father, and even he did not survive for longer than a day. Before he died he managed to tell them a little about what had happened. An old enemy of her fathers had somehow managed to track him and his family down. He knew that there was at least one child that he had not murdered, the girl child who took after her father more than her mother. Among her father’s kind Kadgeon had become well known. She was a half demon who was almost as strong as a full blooded demon, maybe even more so. Deciding it would be best if she stayed away from her brother, since she was the one they were looking for Kadgeon left that night taking only her horse, suit of armor her father had made for her, and her sword. As she traveled the lands she came across several mercenary companies, and soon she decided to join one. She spent years fighting for other people, for things she didn’t even believe in. She killed thousands of men and women, some sons and daughters, others husbands and wives. One day a man came to the captain of her mercenary company saying there was a war going on in the Southern Lands and that his Lord needed more men and women to fight for him. The pay that they were offered was too good to pass up and so they took the job. Everything was going in their favor for a few days, but then the night before the final battle a fog crept over them. The enemy soon sprang on them, catching them slightly off guard. Somehow her father’s enemy had tracked her down here and had decided to fight against them so as to have an easy excuse to kill her. She was almost killed in battle but somehow she managed to keep herself alive even while those around her were killed. When all was silent and dawn was approaching a man came to her. He lifted her into his arms and carried her away from the battle field, bringing her sword with him. Drifting in and out of consciousness she only caught glimpses of what he looked like. Elven features and cold, hard green eyes peered down at her. That night she was taken into the dark embrace of the vampire. She spent a couple of hundred years with him before going out on her own again. This time she disguised herself as a hobbit, hoping that the demon who tracked her wouldn’t find her. So far it’s worked, and she hopes that it continues to do so for she has found her home in Irae, the City of Lions. Also the hobbit people were now her people, she is their Thain.
Enjoy today because yesterday is gone and tomorrow may never come.
